Grammy-winning producer, drummer, and writer, Barrett Martin (Mad Season, Screaming Trees) has launched a new music series on the VEVO music network titled, SINGING EARTH. Barrett writes and hosts the series, and the debut episode titled, “Woven Songs Of The Amazon” can be viewed here:
“Woven Songs Of The Amazon” is also the name of the third installation of the popular album series that Barrett has been producing since 2006. This third installation features the beautiful singing of the indigenous Shipibo Shamans of the Upper Peruvian Amazon Rainforest recorded by Barrett and filmed on location in the Amazon Rainforest. At the shamans’ personal request, Barrett also brought in several special guest musicians to add music to the 20 sacred Icaros (Shipibo healing songs) that Barrett recorded and produced. Featuring musicians like Pearl Jam/Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, former QOTSA guitarist David Catching, former Nirvana/Soundgarden guitarist Jason Everman, Cuban singer/guitarist Hector Tellez Jr., American percussionist Elizabeth Pupo-Walker, and Brazilian superstar Nando Reis, each Icaro has a unique musical thumbprint created by the shamans singing, with the guest musicians providing the background music.
100% of the royalties generated by this album, as well as the previous two albums in this series, goes directly to the shamans and their families.
Stay tuned for future episodes of Barrett’s SINGING EARTH series on the VEVO network, with new episodes appearing about once per month for the rest of this year.
