Following Monday’s exclusive radio premiere via Asheville FM, Dark Sky Burial is happy to reveal the details on ‘Mask of Illusion’ – a collaborative effort between Shane Embury and his companion and outstanding producer, Russ Russell: “At the beginning rhythms for this tracks were around for a while, since I have many infinites loops and ideas…” – explains Embury. “With Russ, we spontaneously decided to work on a new DSB track using the beats but more importantly using lyrics which I feel at this time more than reflect my mental health and vision towards the future…” – production work on recording guitar sounds and vocals on ‘Mask of Illusion’ manifested itself over the 12-hour period.
The addition of vocals brought a deeper emotional layer to the work of Shane Embury – not just following the sonic experimentation, but maximizing the whole concept of stepping outside of the box for Embury. “Over the recent few weeks on the road of The Melvins/Napalm Death tour opened by Dark Sky Burial, I became more and more confident and certainly wish to do more now with Dark Sky Burial, vocally”.
This new expressive layer in Dark Sky Burial‘s sound marks a profound evolution for the project, opening uncharted creative avenues for Shane Embury. The upcoming album set for arriving later this year via Consouling Sounds, promises to explore diverse facets of Dark Sky Burial’s identity. “That’s album which will see many different shades of Dark Sky Burial – my long time friend and colleague Carl Stokes (Cancer,The Groundhogs,Current 93) is a huge part of this album and it concepts too”. – underlines Shane.
