A fierce collision of different musical influences delivered with a fresh rousing energy, ‘Phoenix’ is the new single from upcoming Norfolk band Read The Room. As driving beats and high octane riffs are propelled forwards by the glistening raw emotion of front woman Alana’s impassioned vocals, it offers shades of the pop-tinged rock of the likes of Paramore and PVRIS, with all the gritty guitar-driven allure of Biffy Clyro.
Reflecting on our ability to overcome trauma and rise, “like a phoenix”, from the ashes, the single was inspired by Alana’s sister:
“(It’s) about my sister, to celebrate that she’s overcome trauma, its aftermath, and emerged as a stronger, more resilient person… She’s a huge inspiration to me, and I hope sharing her story will provide hope and encouragement to others, reminding us that things can get better, even at the darkest of times. If you put in the effort, find the courage to talk about what you’re dealing with and get support, your mental health can improve. You can become a stronger and better version of yourself.”
Joining Alana in the band are Dan (bass), Adam (guitar), Alex (guitar) and Elle (drums), and together – by interweaving elements of innovative math-rock and more traditional riff-heavy leanings with a heartfelt cathartic emotion – they create instantly addictive, hard-hitting earworms. Just one listen of ‘Phoenix’ will have you hooked; a swirling alt-rock anthem that marks Read The Room out as definite ones to watch.
Having blown crowds away at Copenhagen’s Vesterbro Rock Fest earlier this year, as well as supporting bands such as Cyan Kicks and High Regard in their hometown of Norwich, the future’s looking bright for Read The Room as they rise up with the seething power of ‘Phoenix’.
‘Phoenix’ was mastered by Anthony of RedRedPaw and is released on 30th September 2025 via We Go To 11 (a sub-label of Trapped Animal Records).
You can catch Read The Room live at Space Studios in Norwich on 4th October 2025.
