On 28th January 2022 Demon Records proudly release three albums from American singer-songwriter Black Francis, two of which have never been available on vinyl before; NonStopErotik and the Paley & Francis album, while the third release The Golem has had a previously limited vinyl release.
All three albums are lovingly issued on 140g coloured vinyl: NonStopErotik will be available on crimson vinyl, while The Golem is released as 2LPs on grey vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed inners. Paley & Francis will be released on black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.
These three releases conclude an extensive vinyl re-issue series of twelve albums, shining a light on the extraordinary talent of Black Francis by Demon Records.
First released in 2010, NonStopErotik the final Black Francis solo album to date. Black Francis wrote the album in the back of a Cadillac, whilst being driven around the “crispy brown hills of Cali”. Recordings were then made in Los Angeles, Brooklyn, and the “very haunted” RAK Studios in London, with producer and frequent collaborator Eric Drew Feldman.
“I had the title of the record and decided that was the theme, so I guess it’s supposed to be an erotic record. For me, I think it’s more of a weird record.” – Black Francis.
The Golem is a soundtrack album written and performed by Black Francis for the San Francisco International Film Festival screening of the 1920 silent horror film ’The Golem: How He Came Into The World’.
“Film fest wants a soundtrack to be performed at a screening…I don’t know how to do that exactly, but the idea that meant some buddies hangout at a studio and make a record I understand. So that’s what we do.” – Black Francis.
This reissue features the “rock songs” version of the album across two vinyl records.
Originally released in 2011, Paley & Francis is a collaborative album by singer-songwriters Reid Paley and Black Francis. Recorded in just two days in Nashville, the duo were joined in the studio by producer Jon Tiven and renowned session players including MuscleShoals legends Spooner Oldham and David Hood. The album is now issued on vinyl for the first time pressed on 140g vinyl and housed in a gatefold sleeve.
