Countdown To Beyond The Redshift

With May nearly upon us and a wide variety of festivals from which to choose, it is time to start the countdown to the inaugural Beyond The Redshift, a multi-venue festival in London, curated by headlining act Cult Of Luna and gathering together some of the finest acts from rock and metal’s fringes. Conceived as an audio-visual concept, Beyond the Redshift promises to expand the horizons of what can be achieved at a modern day music festival and the line-up, comprising some of rock’s most daring and innovative artists, are perfectly suited to draw from the ambitious ethos of the festival.

Festival goers need only buy a single wristband (granting access to all three venues) costing just thirty pounds in order to access a wide range of performers who rarely perform in the UK, and the festival offers a platform upon which these ambitious acts can freely demonstrate their remarkable skills. Acts such as UK progressive rockers Amplifier, ambient metal pioneers Jesu (the critically feted project of Godflesh main-man Justin Broadrick), not to mention the mesmerising God is an astronaut, are all part of the carefully hand-picked line up and there is no question that, for fans of underground, progressive music, Beyond The Redshift is an essential addition to the calendar.

Here’s what the festival press release has to say about the event:

“The cosmological redshift is caused by the expansion of space. The wavelength of light increases as it traverses the expanding universe. Unable to assume that we have a special place within this universe, the redshift suggests to us that everything is moving away from everything else…

We may not be able to go beyond the redshift, but we can certainly think beyond it. We are bringing together artists who expand within their space – artists who create something special within this space. Saturday 10th May will see London host an audio-visual experience built around a concept and line up curated and headlined by Sweden’s Cult of Luna. An artist who for over a decade has helped mould and expand the notion of what heavy music can be, the diverse musicians they have put together should come as no surprise to those familiar with their music.”

Line up:

The Forum: Cult of Luna, God Seed, God Is An Astronaut, Jesu, Amenra, Syndrome The Dome: Amplifier, Bossk, The Old Wind, Esben & the Witch, Blueneck, pg.lost Boston Music Room: Greg Haines, Sleepmakeswaves, Thought Forms, Dirk Serries, Hark, Further Down, Petter Carlsen, Abraham, Shield Patterns, Atlantis, Canaya
