Desertfest Announce Sleep For Roundhouse

DESERFEST LONDON are pleased to announce that after conquering Koko in 2015, SLEEP are back; and this time to reign The Roundhouse.
Forming in 1990, SLEEP carved out an almost mythological name for themselves in their original stint of less than a decade. The first three-piece lineup of Al Cisneros, Matt Pike and Chris Hakius recorded two of doom’s most revered albums in Holy Mountain and Dopesmoker. After a decade long slumber, SLEEP awoke in 2009 and have been sporadically touring ever since, dooming all over the planet. In 2015, we got a taste of their downtuned heavy when SLEEP closed out DESERTFEST with an unforgettable set at the Koko.

But if it’s worth doing again, it’s worth doing bigger and better. Which is exactly why we’ve upped our game and hit our biggest venue yet, SLEEP and more will be playing the larger Roundhouse for a full day of Sunday shenanigans. Just a short walk from Desertfest’s other stages, The Roundhouse boasts an increased capacity, heavier sound, more space for merch and even more bars, meaning nobody should miss their chance to space out to ‘Dragonaut’ and get downright weird.

If that wasn’t enough, we have a batch more bands to announce for next years proceedings! After lying low in recent years, conjurers of atmospheric black metal WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM are back on the warpath and headed straight for DESERTFEST 2017! The Weaver brothers’ ethereal yet brutal music is a powerful experience live, which you shouldn’t miss at.

Doom pioneers SAINT VITUS make their Desertfest London debut, with founding vocalist Scott Reagers in tow. With some of the genre’s most iconic tracks to their name, be glad you weren’t Born Too Late to see Saint Vitus grace the stage.

Not content to merely headline this year’s festival with SLO BURN, stoner rock’s favourite frontman brings the JOHN GARCIA BAND to Desertfest 2017. With Garcia’s solid back catalogue, from Kyuss right through to his upcoming solo acoustic record, we expect the whole venue to be shaking when the John Garcia band take stage.

This year’s Human_Disease_Promo / WhenPlanetsCollide Stage is already a cut above the rest, with the announcement of its first band, SCISSORFIGHT. The returning heroes of the crustier sides of sludge rocked up this year after a decade long rest with the fantastic Chaos Country EP – and by the sounds of it haven’t skipped a beat.

Jamming psychsters STONED JESUS will be playing a special set celebrating their second album Seven Thunders Roar. Though only half a decade young, the album is a masterpiece well on the way to being considered iconic.

They’ll be joined on the bill by forces of brutality; in the form of Jacob Bannon of Converge’s project WEAR YOUR WOUNDS, progressive sludge metal act EARTH SHIP and the Sabbath-meets-Eyehategod earthquake of IRON WITCH.

London’s own walking, talking slice of Palm Desert, STEAK, are set to riff you a new one, with DEAD LORD providing a lethal shot of 70’s worship and PONTIAK will be there to provide you a psych induced freakout.
And to top it off we’ve got the pure insanity of BACKWARDS PAYBACK and one of the UK’s most exciting acts, MAMMOTH WEED WIZARD BASTARD.
