Nevermore – ‘The Obsidian Conspiracy’ Album Review (part 1 – Guest Reviewer)

This new Nevermore release is impressive. The cd kicks off with two short tracks. Track one ‘The Termination Proclamation’ is a good simple heavy metal track followed quickly by one of my favourite Nevermore tracks ever; ‘Your Poison Throne’ has a great riff and lovely solo. ‘Moonrise’ is next up. Again good riffs with the usual powerful and menacing vocals / lyrics of Warrell Dane. He and guitarist Jeff Loomis are ably supported by some spot on drumming and solid rhythm guitar and bass playing. Loomis is a very good guitarist and gives the band a unique sound which is hard to pigeon hole.

‘The Obsidian Conspiracy’ and ‘The Maiden Spoke’ are very atmospheric with good tempo changes and nice solos. Two other great tracks are ‘Without morals’ and ‘The Day You Built The Wall’ which  also have great lyrics, singing, Tempo changes and good solos . I think this is one of the best cds so far this year. I recommend it for lovers of well made, unique metal.
