Saxorior – ‘1813’ Album Review

This seems to be one of those “epic” historical story cds. I think it’s about war / battles between Sweden and A German state ( Prussia?) Other than the filler tracks ( 1 and 6) this is quite an enjoyable album.

Volkerschlact is pretty thrashy, quite orchestral, with million miles per hour drumming, good riffs and guitar harmonies and typical growling vocals. Johan Siegmund is speedy mad drumming, background keyboards and good speedy riffing then nice chuggy riffs changing the tempo well.Brave Helpers in Need has one of the best riffs on the cd and a decent harmony / swapping guitar solos section. Sentenced to death is about the innocent casualties of war. It has a good midsection and is quite symphonic, with typical thrash vocals. Track 8 and 9 follow similar patterns to earlier tracks, but the closer the Last Battle of a Great Warrior is an attempt atb a grand epic finish with keyboards more evident but still with good riffs and drumming. It’s spoilt slightly by the commentary sounds of the warrior dying. If you like Dimmu Borgir’s mid period stuff, you might like this cd. It is a decent / good sometimes example of symphonic thrash metal with good guitar playing and drumming and is quite well produced.
